T.I.’s “Live Your Life” Reaches the Top of the Charts

Grand Hustle/Atlantic recording artist T.I. has landed atop the CHR/Top 40 charts with his single, “Live Your Life” (featuring Rhianna), off his latest album, Paper Trail. In addition, the single remains #1 on the Rhythmic chart for its fourth consecutive week, followed at #2 by the RIAA 2x platinum certified single “Whatever You Like.”

“Live Your Life” made history last October, climbing to #1 on Billboard’s “Hot 100″ from the previous week’s ranking at #80 — the biggest-ever one-week leap to the top. The success of “Live Your Life” shattered the previous record for largest ascent to #1 — a feat set just six weeks prior by T.I.’s own “Whatever You Like.” That track rocketed to #1 from #71 the week of September 6th and remained there until being replaced by “Live Your Life.”

Joe Budden Releases Sophomore Album Via Amalgam Digital 1st Quarter of ‘09

Former Def Jam artist Joe Budden is releasing his sophomore album, Padded Room, via the independent label and online retailer Amalgam Digital on February 24, 2009. The lead single off the album is “The Future,” which features his one-time nemesis The Game.

In conjunction with the release of Joe Budden’s album, Amalgam Digital will relaunch their website, offering consumers exclusive bonus tracks with the purchase of “Padded Room” from the re-designed AmalgamDigital.com.

After the shelving of his sophomore project for nearly four years, Joe Budden became embroiled in a public dispute with the Def Jam record label and then president Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, which eventually led to his release from the iconic label in 2007. The New Jersey emcee revitalized his career using the internet as a medium to distribute his music, producing the popular “Mood Muzik” mixtape series.

Joe Budden was nominated for a Grammy for best male rap solo performance for the song “Pump It Up” from his debut album.

Lil’ Wayne Accused of Copyright Infringement

The lawyers of multi-platinum selling recording artist Lil’ Wayne are seeking more time to turn over documents in the federal lawsuit against the rapper for copyright infringement.

According to the federal filing in May, Lil’ Wayne’s song “I Feel Like Dying,” used an unauthorized sample from the song “Once,” written by singer Karma-Ann Swanepoel. The suit states Lil’ Wayne’s record label, Cash Money Records, attempted to negotiate a license to use the sample before it was available for download.

On Tuesday, Lil’ Wayne’s attorneys asked a judge in New Orleans to extend a Friday deadline to submit the required documents to the lawyers of Swanepoel’s publishing company.

Jacki-O readies “Lil’ Red Riding Hood” for ‘09

Miami femcee Jacki-O is returning to the music scene with the release of her sophomore album, “Lil’ Red Riding Hood,” via her own Jackmove Entertainment in conjunction with Gracie Productions and EMI.

“Baby Mama” is the first single off her forthcoming album, and she created the record to dispel the connotation generally associated with the term. “When I say ‘baby mama’ I affectionately use it as another slang for ‘be your girl’,” Jacki-O explains. “I can remember playing with dolls as a young girl, dreaming of the day that I would marry and have kids, and I think most women have. It’s nothing negative, it’s just real life.”

Recognized by audiences for her risque lyrics and hardcore persona, Jacki-O first received national exposure with her 2003 song, “Nookie.” Back in 2004, she released her debut album “Poe Little Rich Girl” on Poe Boy/TVT.

“Lil’ Red Riding Hood” is due out February 24, 2009.
